How to Check Your CS2 Inventory Value (And Why Prices Differ)
Whether you’re thinking of selling, trading up or just curious, the first question every CS2 player asks is: what is my inventory worth? This guide shows you how to check your CS2 inventory value, why different tools give different numbers, and what you can realistically expect to get for your skins.
Before you start: make your inventory public
Every value checker reads your inventory through Steam, so it has to be public:
- Go to your Steam profile and click Edit Profile.
- Open Privacy Settings.
- Set Inventory to Public.
Changes can take a little while to show up on third-party sites. You’ll also need a public inventory to use your Steam trade URL.
3 ways to check your CS2 inventory value
1. The Steam Community Market
Look up each item on the Steam Market to see its current lowest listing and recent sales. It’s accurate for the Steam Market, but slow if you have lots of items, and it doesn’t add your inventory up for you.
2. Inventory value checker websites
Value checkers let you paste your Steam profile link or ID and add up your whole inventory instantly, usually with a breakdown by item. Many also let you switch between pricing sources such as the Steam Market or third-party marketplaces.
3. Trading and marketplace sites
When you log in to a trading site, it shows what it will give you for each item. This is the most “real” number, because it’s an actual offer, but each site prices differently and often lower than the Steam Market.
Why do different tools show different values?
It’s normal to see very different totals for the same inventory. The main reasons:
- Different price sources. Steam Market prices are usually higher than cash-out marketplace prices, because Steam balance can only be spent on Steam.
- Listing price vs sale price. Some tools use the lowest current listing, others use the average of recent sales.
- Float, patterns and stickers. Most checkers price by name and wear only. A low float, rare pattern (such as a Doppler phase or blue gem) or valuable sticker can make an item worth much more than the tool says. See our float guide and Doppler phases guide.
- Price updates. Tools refresh prices at different times, and the market can move quickly.
What you actually get when you sell
Your inventory “value” is not the same as the money you’ll end up with.
| Where you sell | What you receive | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Community Market | Steam Wallet balance | Steam’s transaction fee and the CS2 game fee are taken from the sale, roughly 13% of the buyer’s price. Steam balance can’t be withdrawn as cash. |
| Third-party marketplaces | Cash, crypto or site balance | Fees and payout methods vary. Many hold payouts until the 7-day trade protection period ends. |
| Instant-sell / trade bots | Instant site balance or cash | Fastest option, but usually the lowest price. |
Trade protection and your inventory
Since July 2025, CS2 items you receive in a trade are covered by Steam’s 7-day trade protection. During that window the trade can be reversed, and the items can’t be traded on or sold on the market (you can still use them in game). If you’ve just received skins, they won’t be sellable straight away, so allow for that when planning a sale or trade up.
How to get the most out of your inventory
- Compare at least two price sources before selling anything valuable.
- Price rare floats, patterns and stickers by hand. Look at recent sales of similar items, not the generic price.
- Bundle cheap items. Low-value skins can be combined in a trade up contract or traded together for one better item.
- Use trusted sites only. Our CS2 trading sites guide compares reputable options.
- Protect your account. Never log in through links sent by strangers, and keep Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator on.
FAQs
How do I check my CS2 inventory value for free?
Make your inventory public, then use a free inventory value checker or look up your items on the Steam Community Market.
Why is my inventory worth less on trading sites than on Steam?
Steam Market prices are in Steam balance, which can’t be cashed out, so cash-out prices on other sites are naturally lower. Sites also build in their own margins.
Can I turn my CS2 inventory into real money?
Yes, through third-party marketplaces that pay out in cash or crypto. Fees and payout times vary, so compare sites first.
Why can’t I sell skins I just received?
Items received in a trade are under 7-day trade protection and can’t be traded or sold until it ends.
